Building SPM study tools without becoming a tuition brand
SPMDrill organises trial and past-year papers for Form 4–5. Here’s how we think about study products at Lazuar.

SPM revision is high-stakes and noisy. Students and parents don’t need another motivational feed — they need papers they can actually find and use.
The job is focus, not “edtech”
When we shaped SPMDrill, the job was narrow:
Help Form 4–5 students browse trial and past-year SPM papers, filter what they need, and open PDFs for focused revision.
That’s it. No fake gamification. No pretending to replace teachers.
Organised beats infinite
The internet is full of papers. The problem is organisation:
- year and state mixed without structure
- links that die
- folders that only one friend has
SPMDrill is free to browse so the barrier stays low. The product wins when a student can land, filter, and revise — without a scavenger hunt.
Why this sits under Lazuar
Lazuar ships purpose-built apps for real users. Education and shop booking look different on the surface, but the studio rule is the same:
- Name the job
- Remove structural friction
- Ship a live product people open
TempahHQ is for shops that sell time. SPMDrill is for students who need papers. Same standard, different jobs.
What we won’t turn it into (yet)
- A full tuition marketplace
- Paywalled notes that block browsing
- A social network around exams
If those jobs become clear and structural later, they might become new products — not a bloated SPMDrill.
